Weather and time

Sea fans and sponges stand over the sand in this underwater view from the reef off Key Largo, in the Florida Keys. Turtle grass covers the open ground between the coral heads.

Sergeant majors, blue tangs, wrasses and parrotfish work the frame more or less constantly, and barracuda, rays and nurse sharks pass through it. Angelfish, filefish and moray eels turn up less often.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park opened in 1963 as the first undersea park in the United States and protects part of the only living barrier reef in the country. Visibility on the live stream depends on the sea: after a blow the water stays cloudy for days.
