Lanikai Beach, Hawaii Live Cam

Lanikai is a stretch of shoreline at Kailua, on the windward side of Oahu in Hawaii, facing two small islands. The camera looks across the water at them.

The islands are Nā Mokulua, a seabird sanctuary; landing is allowed on part of the larger one and nowhere on the smaller. Shearwaters and terns nest on both.

The beach itself is disappearing. Houses along it were allowed to build seawalls, which reflect the waves instead of absorbing them and scour the sand away in front, and long stretches that were fifty metres wide in the 1970s now vanish entirely at high tide.
