Maui Kaanapali Villas, Hawaii Live Cam

Kaanapali is a resort strip on the dry western coast of Maui, laid out in the 1960s on former sugar cane land. The camera looks over the lawn and the beach from one of the properties.

It was the first planned resort in Hawaii, opened in 1962 as the plantation that had worked this coast began to wind down. The rock at the northern end of the beach was held to be the place where souls departed the island.

Lahaina, five kilometres south, burned in August 2023 in a fire that destroyed most of the historic town and killed over a hundred people. The resorts along this beach housed evacuees for months, and the rebuilding is still under way.
