Margate Fishing Pier, New Jersey Live Cam

The beach at Margate City runs north from the fishing pier, with the Atlantic breaking along the whole length of it. The camera sits on the pier itself, so the deck and railings frame the bottom right of the picture.

Margate is on Absecon Island, the barrier island on the New Jersey shore that also carries Ventnor and Atlantic City. The skyline of Atlantic City stands at the far end of the sand on clear days.

Lucy the Elephant, a six-storey wooden elephant built in 1881, is the landmark of the town and stands a few blocks from the beach. The pier faces east, which puts the sunrise directly ahead of the lens and the sunset behind it.
