Weather and time
This camera looks out over Main Beach in the Village of East Hampton, watching the Atlantic surf from the dunes above the sand. In view are a wide strip of pale sand, beach grass on the dune in the foreground and lines of waves breaking along the shore.
Main Beach lies at the southern end of Ocean Avenue on the South Fork of Long Island and faces the open Atlantic. In summer it is one of three village beaches with lifeguards on duty. Georgica Beach lies about two kilometres west along the same shore.
The camera moves between preset views: south-east, south and south-west across the water, plus zoomed shots along the beach to the east and west. Wide views keep dune grass in the foreground and sometimes a sand fence on the beach, while the zoomed ones bring the surf line closer and show tyre tracks crossing the sand.
