Weather and time
This camera looks south across Johnson Meadow in South Lake Tahoe, California, through a screen of aspens and tall pines. Pale meadow grass, a wooden rail fence and a dark band of conifers lead the eye to wooded mountains on the skyline.
Johnson Meadow covers about 206 acres along the Upper Truckee River, which runs north through it into Lake Tahoe. For almost a century the land belonged to one family, who kept a dairy and grazed cattle here. In 2018 the Tahoe Resource Conservation District bought it, and its restoration plan aims to let the river spread over the meadow again so that fine sediment settles before it reaches the lake.
The camera stands among the trees at the northern edge of the meadow, just off Lake Tahoe Boulevard, so trunks and branches frame the open ground. Through the gaps the grass stretches south toward the forest.
