Oswego is a small city in Oswego County, New York, on the southeastern shore of Lake Ontario, the smallest of the Great Lakes by surface area. The State University of New York at Oswego stretches along this shoreline, and Hart Hall is a residence hall on Union Road. The region is well known for lake-effect snow in winter.

The camera is fixed and does not change its view. The horizon sits near the middle of the frame, so half of the picture is sky, and clouds and changing light over the water are easy to follow. After dark the image turns into a greyscale night picture.
