Weather and time
A single Union Pacific track runs from the old depot platform in Grand Saline, Texas, toward a road crossing at the edge of town. Red metal sheds, a tire shop and a line of trees stand beyond a strip of grass.
The camera hangs under the eaves of a former railroad depot that now houses the town library, and the roof edge cuts across the upper right of the frame. The track belongs to the Union Pacific Mineola Subdivision, which also carries Amtrak’s Texas Eagle, and a black fence separates it from the parking strip beside the building.
The view is a long, open one: the rails vanish toward the crossing, where a road cuts across the line, and westbound trains head that way. In the foreground, gravel ballast and tall grass line the single main, so a passing freight fills the frame from the ballast to the depot roof.
