Weather and time

A camera at Farm Sanctuary near Watkins Glen, New York, watches rescued cows graze in the fenced pastures beside the main cow barn. Its wide view takes in white rail fences, open grass and a wooded hillside behind.

Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 and became the first shelter for farmed animals in the United States. Its farm here is home to cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. The cattle in this herd include cows from dairy farms, animals rescued from neglect cases and others whose owners gave them up.

The camera does not hold one framing: one hour it shows a close-up of cows at the rail fence, another a wide pasture cut by a zigzag fence line or a roofed shelter where the herd stands together. After dark the picture switches to black and white.
