Dunlawton South Beach, Florida Live Cam

Cars park on the sand at Daytona Beach Shores, on one of the stretches of Florida coast where driving on the beach is still allowed. The camera stands at a lifeguard tower and looks south towards the Sunglow pier.

The sand here is packed hard enough to take a car, and people took advantage: land speed records were set on this beach between 1903 and 1935, and the racing that followed, on a course half on the sand and half on the road, turned into NASCAR.

Access is now held to marked zones, daylight hours and a walking-pace limit, partly for the turtles that nest on the same sand between May and October. The pier closing the view to the south carries a restaurant on the end of it.
