Weather and time
This pan-tilt camera overlooks the BNSF Needles Subdivision from the Barstow Station stop on the east side of Barstow, California. Tracks, a parking lot and bare desert hills share the frame.
Barstow Station is a roadside stop on East Main Street built around old railcars, with the line running along its parking lot behind a chain-link fence. The route continues east across the Mojave toward Needles and carries BNSF and Union Pacific freights and Amtrak's Southwest Chief.
The view changes during the day. One position looks over coaches parked at the edge of the lot, two tracks behind the fence and a road overpass above them. Another looks along the line past parked cars and flowering shrubs to a long curve of track and a green irrigated field, with a freight train rounding the bend and ridges on the horizon.
