Weather and time
This camera looks southeast across the open water of Apple Valley Lake in Knox County, Ohio, toward a wooded ridge lined with homes. White boathouses and covered docks stand along the far shore, and a boathouse roof edges into the right side of the frame.
Apple Valley Lake is a reservoir of about 511 acres at the heart of Apple Valley, a planned lake community. Its dam on Little Jelloway Creek dates from the early 1970s, and the lake winds for about three miles between wooded hills. Mount Vernon, the county seat, lies some 13 km (8 miles) to the southwest.
The fixed camera faces the morning sun, so early light glitters on the water and mist can drift over it on cool mornings. Later the far shore comes into clearer view, with houses among hardwood trees and a power line tower on the ridge to the left. In autumn the slope turns orange and brown.
