Valley City is a village in Medina County, about 35 km south-west of Cleveland. The camera stands on the grounds of a large wholesale plant nursery, which has several ponds, each with a family of swans that lives there all year. A line of large boulders edges the far bank, and a row of trimmed trees stands behind it.

The camera looks from a low spot at the water's edge, so the open water fills the lower half of the picture and the trees form the backdrop. A large flat rock sits in the lower-right corner. The birds appear small against the water.
