MS Brienz View Live Cam

The camera is mounted on a passenger boat working the lakes at Interlaken, between Thun and Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. The view changes as the vessel moves.

Lake Brienz is the colder and greener of the two. Glacial meltwater carries rock flour into it, fine enough to stay suspended, and the particles scatter light in a way that turns the water turquoise on a bright day.

Steamers have worked these lakes since the 1830s, and one paddle steamer from 1906 is still in service. The Giessbach falls on the northern shore are reached by a funicular of 1879, said to be the oldest in Europe still running on its original line.
