An equestrian club at Jakubowice, in Opole voivodeship in southern Poland, has a show jumping arena in front of this camera. Riders work the course through the day.

Show jumping courses are built to a set of standard distances, so that the strides between fences come out even for a horse of average length. Getting them wrong by half a metre is what makes a rail fall.

Poland has bred horses seriously for a long time: the state stud at Janów Podlaski has been selling Arabians at auction since the 1810s and has set world prices more than once. The country around this arena is flat arable farmland.
