The concrete wall with its row of white balusters is the bridge itself, carrying Highgate over the gully at Kaikorai Valley Road. Traffic enters from three directions here, and the houses and streetlights of the valley fall away behind. It is one of the more useful cameras in the network for judging conditions on the hill road.

Frost and black ice are the reason many locals check it: Dunedin's hill suburbs sit several degrees colder than the flat city centre on a clear winter night.
