The Octagon, Central Dunedin Live Cam

The Octagon, the eight-sided plaza at the centre of Dunedin, seen from above with its ring road and plane trees. Everything in the central city is measured from here.

The stone building on the left is the Municipal Chambers; the Town Hall, the art gallery and St Paul's Cathedral all front onto the same space, and George Street and Princes Street run out of it in opposite directions. Buses stop on the lower arm, and the upper lawn is where the city holds its markets, protests and street food nights.

The camera is run by the Dunedin City Council. New Zealand is twelve hours ahead of UTC — thirteen in daylight saving — so the plaza is at its busiest while most of Europe is asleep.
