Night Sky, Berghaus Rhön Live Cam

A fisheye camera on the roof of Berghaus Rhön above Riedenberg points straight up at the sky over the Bavarian Rhön. Treetops ring the edge of the round frame, and the pale wall of the building cuts across its right side and top.

In 2024 the Bad Kissingen district set up a Himmelsschauplatz, an outdoor sky-watching station, beside the Berghaus, with a turning star chart, a Polaris finder and a binocular mount. It joins a network of such sites across the Rhön, which has been recognised as an International Dark Sky Reserve, the Sternenpark Rhön, since 2014.

North is at the top, south at the bottom, east on the left and west on the right, so in daylight the sun crosses the lower half of the circle. Stargazers use the camera to check whether cloud or fog covers the sky before they drive up.
