Weather and time
This view looks across the harbour of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île from a wooden pontoon, over moored sailing boats and an old stone quay. Rows of white houses with shops and cafés line the waterfront on the far side.
Noirmoutier-en-l'Île is the historic centre of the island of Noirmoutier, off the Vendée coast in the Bay of Bourgneuf. Its harbour dries out at low tide, so boats settle on the mud of the basin, and it is known as a heritage port where traditional sailing boats gather. The château-museum and the lanes of the Banzeau quarter lie close to the quays.
The pontoon deck takes up the bottom of the frame, with a white service box and tall masts rising from boats tied alongside. In all three daytime frames the basin is dry mud with a thin channel of water on the right, and a dark church spire stands above the roofs at the far right.
