Weather and time
This camera looks out from the Chassiron lighthouse at the northern tip of Oléron, over footpaths, heath and a wide shore of tidal rock. A small house with an orange tile roof stands beside the path below.
The lighthouse rises from a rocky cliff near Saint-Denis-d'Oléron and guides ships through the Pertuis d'Antioche, a strait with reefs and a long record of wrecks. The present tower was lit in 1836, and its three black bands were painted in 1926 so that it could be told apart from the Baleines lighthouse on the Île de Ré. Visitors climb 224 steps to the gallery.
From this height the frame shows the layout of the grounds: a grassy field edged by a hedge, sand paths winding between the plots, and then rock platforms cut by channels and pools that run out toward a line of breaking waves. A timestamp sits in the top corner.
