Weather and time
The Quarantaine viaduct carries the railway over the Saône just south of Lyon-Perrache station, in the middle of Lyon. The camera sits in a preserved signal box and looks along the bridge.
The bridge dates from 1856 and the box housing the camera is Poste 1, kept by a railway history association after it went out of use. The line runs straight into a tunnel under the Fourvière hill beyond the far abutment.
Perrache was the main station of Lyon until Part-Dieu took the traffic in the 1980s. It stands on the neck of land between the Saône and the Rhône, a couple of kilometres above the point where the two rivers meet.
