Hvide Sande North Beach, Denmark Live Cam

Hvide Sande sits on a sandbar between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord, on the west coast of Jutland in Denmark. The camera belongs to a surf school and looks out over the fjord side.

The town exists because of a cut. The bar had closed over and the water behind it was going stagnant, so a channel with locks and sluices was dug through in the 1930s to let the sea in and out under control, and the fishing harbour grew around it.

The fjord averages about a metre deep and is brackish, flat and warm, which makes it the standard place in Denmark to learn to windsurf. The sea on the other side of the road is a different proposition entirely.
