Bakar bay, Croatia Live Cam

Bakar sits at the head of a long narrow bay a little east of Rijeka, on the northern Croatian coast. The webcam looks over the waterfront, the promenade and the water.

The town ran a nautical school from 1849, one of the first in this part of Europe, and sent officers into merchant fleets for a century and a half. A Frankopan castle from the fifteenth century stands above the houses.

The bay was ruined and then recovered. A coke plant worked on the shore from 1978 and coated the town in dust until it was shut down in 1995; the water is clean again and the pilchard fishery the place was once known for still works out of the same quay.
