Ante Starčević Square Live Cam

Trg Ante Starčevića is the main square of the upper town at Osijek, in eastern Croatia close to the Drava. The camera looks across the fountain at the buildings and the tram lines.

Osijek keeps a tram system, one of only three in the country, and the lines cross this square. A kilometre east is Tvrđa, a baroque fortress quarter built by the Austrians after they took the town from the Ottomans in 1687, and left almost intact.

The city was shelled for months in 1991 and 1992 and lost a good deal of its centre, which is why so many façades here look new. It stands on the Drava a short way above the point where that river meets the Danube.
