Peregrine Falcon Nest Box, St Martin's Church, Kortrijk Live Cam

The camera looks into a peregrine falcon nest box in the tower of St Martin's Church in the centre of Kortrijk, West Flanders. A weathered wooden perch rail runs across the foreground, with a raised tray of nesting material just behind it.

St Martin's Church stands a short walk from the Grote Markt and was built between 1390 and 1466. Its Brabant Gothic west tower rises 83 metres above the old town. The nest box was placed in the tower in 2008, and the climb to the viewing platform at 65 metres is closed for several months each spring so the falcons can breed undisturbed.

The lens looks down over the rail into the tray, with the dark side walls of the box framing the picture. At night the image is black and white, yet the grain of the timber and the material in the tray stay easy to make out.
