Weather and time
The camera looks into a peregrine falcon nest box on the Virginie Lovelinggebouw, a government office building in Ghent. The frame shows pale gravel in the corner of a dark box, with a small paper sign on the back wall.
The building stands on Koningin Maria Hendrikaplein in the Rijsenbergwijk district of Ghent, in the province of East Flanders. Peregrine falcons readily nest on tall city buildings, and they lay their eggs in loose gravel instead of building a nest, which is why the floor of the box is covered with stones.
This is the close view from inside the box, so eggs, chicks and adult birds are seen at very short range when they are present. In Belgium the breeding season runs roughly from March to June, and outside it the box often stands empty for months.
