The Statue of Pier Kloeff, a symbol of local fishermen, stands on the left side of the beach. Next to it, on the Leopold I esplanade, is the Leopold I memorial with a statue of Leopold I, the first King of the Belgians. The monument marks the place where King Leopold I first stepped on Belgian soil in 1831. On the beach in front of the monument is Touching To Sea You Through Our Extremities, a large bronze octopus appearing to rise from the sand.
