De Gavers, West Flanders Live Cam

The lake at De Gavers, a nature reserve on the edge of Harelbeke in West Flanders, Belgium, lies below this view. Small boats sit out on the open water, and reeds and bare trees line the far bank.

The reserve covers 192 hectares around a lake dug out for gravel and now given over to birds and recreation. Coots, grebes, mute swans, geese and several kinds of duck use the water; the hide called De Fuut on the bank is where this camera is mounted.

Numbers on the water rise in winter, when ducks arrive from the north and the paths around the lake are quiet. In summer the same shoreline carries walkers, cyclists and rowing boats.
