Live Cams in Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg, Russia
Saint Petersburg (Санкт-Петербу́рг) is one of the major ports on the Baltic Sea and the 2nd largest city in Russia, after its capital Moscow. Throughout history, the city’s name changed several times: first Saint Petersburg, then Petrograd (1914), then Leningrad (1924) and finally back to Saint Petersburg (1991). Although it is considered one of the country’s most westernised cities, it is still the cultural centre of the nation, probably due to the fact that it was the capital of the Russian Empire for 200 years. Its historical nucleus was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 due to the valuable architectural legacy that combined Russian-Byzantine, Baroque and Neoclassical elements. Just by walking along the wide avenues, you will have an idea of how grandiose this city actually is. Some metro stations (e.g. Avtovo) are real works of art, being exquisitely decorated with noble materials, such as bronze and marble.Watch the live streaming cameras of this port city in the Gulf of Finland, frequently called ‘The Venice of the North’.
