Church on Spilled Blood Live Cam

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood stands across the Griboyedov Canal from this view, in Saint Petersburg. Its tiled domes and brick gables fill the right of the frame, and the trees of the Mikhailovsky Garden stand behind it.

The church was built between 1883 and 1907 on the spot where Alexander II was fatally wounded by a bomb, and the fence and canopy inside mark the exact place. Its interior is covered by roughly 7,000 square metres of mosaic, one of the largest such schemes anywhere.

The building is deliberately unlike the classical centre around it — it copies sixteenth-century Moscow churches, which is why it reads as an intrusion in the skyline. Another camera further down the same canal looks the other way, towards the dome of St Isaac's.
