Prospekt Nauki, St. Petersburg Live Cam

Prospekt Nauki runs east through the Kalininsky district in the north of St Petersburg, a long avenue of panel blocks. The camera looks across the traffic and a corner of a courtyard park.

The name means Science Avenue, and the streets around it are named after academics and institutes: the Polytechnic stands a short way west, and the district was laid out in the 1960s and 1970s to house the people working in it.

Sosnovka Park at the eastern end is three hundred hectares of pine wood. An airfield was cut into it during the siege of Leningrad and fighters flew from between the trees; the line of the runway is still there as a straight clearing.
