Stephens City Traffic, Virginia Live Cam

Main Street crosses Fairfax Street in the middle of Stephens City, a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The camera looks down on the junction.

The town was laid out in 1758 and made its money building wagons for the settlers heading down the valley and on into Kentucky and Tennessee. The road through it was the Valley Pike, the main route along the whole of the Shenandoah.

That made the valley worth fighting over: it was marched up and down repeatedly during the civil war and burned out in 1864. Stephens City survived the burning, and a good deal of its eighteenth-century building stock is still standing.
