Reindeer, Michigan Live Cam

A reindeer herd stands in a paddock at a farm near Clare, in the middle of the lower peninsula of Michigan. The webcam looks across the fence at the animals.

Reindeer are the only deer in which both sexes grow antlers. Males drop theirs after the autumn rut and females keep theirs through the winter, which is the basis of a well-worn observation about the sex of the team on Christmas Eve.

The farm breeds them and hires them out for displays and events through the season. Their feet spread on soft ground and their hooves harden in winter into rims for cutting through ice, which is why they cope with a Michigan February.
