Pacific Park Live, Santa Monica Cam

Santa Monica Pier carries a small amusement park out over the Pacific, west of Los Angeles in California. The webcam looks along the beach and the rides.

The Ferris wheel on the end runs on solar power and is the only one of its kind; the pier itself dates from 1909 and was built to carry sewage out past the surf line before anyone thought of putting rides on it.

A sign at the entrance marks the western end of Route 66, which is not quite true — the road officially ended a few blocks inland — but the pier has been claiming it for decades and nobody minds.
