Weather and time

A concrete walkway curves across a lawn beside a pond in Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Tall trees and a single pole stand on the grass, and red hills close the view behind the water.

Hot water at about 135 °F rises from the springs of this park at the edge of Thermopolis and runs through a chain of cooling ponds on its way to the Bighorn River. The land was bought from the Eastern Shoshone in 1896 and passed to the state a year later. The grounds also hold a pasture for a small state bison herd, picnic shelters and flower gardens.

The camera stays on this single view from the lawn beside the ponds, with the walkway in the foreground and the far shore of the pond in the middle distance. In cold morning air steam can rise from the water, and the light on the red hills changes through the day.
