Arvada Big 10 Curve, Colorado Live Cam

From a hillside above the Big 10 Curve near Arvada, Colorado, the camera looks down on the railroad's S-shaped bends cut across open grassland. Pine trees dot the slope in the foreground, and the plains run to a distant horizon.

The Big 10 Curve is on Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision near milepost 21, on the former Denver, Northwestern & Pacific line opened in 1902 to climb from the plains toward the Rocky Mountains. Two loops of 10-degree curvature stretch the route so the grade stays manageable. Today it carries Union Pacific and BNSF freight and Amtrak's California Zephyr.

The camera moves between a wide view over the whole curve with Denver's skyline faint on the horizon and tighter shots of individual rail cars close to the track. At night only the lights of the city glow beyond the dark foothills.
