Two ground feeding trays stand in front of this view in a garden in Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama. A chipmunk sits in the near tray, doves feed in the far one, and dry leaves cover the ground between them.

The garden backs onto green space near a golf course, so the visitors are a mix of woodland and suburban animals: house sparrows, blue jays, cardinals, squirrels and, after dark, raccoons and possums. The overlay carries the local time and temperature.

Winter brings the most traffic, when natural food runs short and the trays are refilled daily. In summer the same frame can stand empty for long stretches in the heat.
