Weather and time
This camera looks across the railway viaduct at the northeast end of Newcastle Central Station in Newcastle upon Tyne. Overhead line masts, a surface car park and a mix of old stone and modern office buildings fill the frame behind the tracks.
Newcastle Central is the main railway station of the city, opened in 1850 on the north bank of the River Tyne. Beyond the station the tracks run east on a stone viaduct, and the High Level Bridge over the river lies a short way to the south-east. Newcastle Castle's medieval keep stands close by.
The stone arches of the viaduct run along the bottom of the picture, with glazed units set into them at street level. Trains pass on the elevated tracks between the masts, while white office blocks and the lantern tower of St Nicholas Cathedral rise behind the roofs.
