Weather and time
The Yeongdo Bridge crosses from the mainland of Busan to Yeongdo island, a short span with a lifting section at one end. The camera watches the traffic and the water beside it.
It opened in 1934 as the first bascule bridge in Korea, and the raising of the deck drew crowds from the start. Lifting stopped in 1966 when a water main was laid across it, and started again in 2013 after the bridge was rebuilt; it now goes up once a day.
During the Korean War, when Busan held most of the country's refugees, this bridge was where separated families arranged to meet. The fortune tellers who set up on the Yeongdo side to advise them left a row of shops that lasted for decades afterwards.
