Weather and time

This real-time webcam looks over Seongsan Ilchulbong in Seogwipo (서귀포시, 西歸浦市), a city in the southern part of Jeju Island, South Korea. Also called Seongsan Sunrise Peak, it formed more than 5,000 years ago through volcanic eruptions. It became a natural monument on July 19, 2000, and UNESCO added it to the World Natural Heritage List on July 2, 2007.

The tuff cone stands 182 metres high, with a well-preserved crater that forms a bowl-like shape, its inner walls shaped by the sea cliffs. Seongsan Ilchulbong was once an island separate from Jeju's mainland, but sand and gravel built up a road that appeared at low tide, and in 1940 a permanent road connected it to the mainland. The site has 222 plant species, including six rare ones such as ferns, orchids, and parasitic plants.

Climbing to the top takes about an hour, and there is an admission fee. From the summit you can see the crater and the ocean beyond, a view long counted among Jeju's 10 scenic spots. The peak is known for its sunrise, and it hosts the annual Seongsan Sunrise Festival on December 31st. The park is open from 7:10 a.m. to 19:00 in summer and 7:30 a.m. to 18:00 in winter. The camera is at the Seongsan Ilchulbong Parking Lot, and its exact location is on the map further down the page.
