Papal Altar Stary Sącz, Poland Live Cam

The papal altar at Stary Sącz stands on open meadow below the town, in the Lesser Poland region in the south of the country. The camera looks across the field at it.

The structure was built for one morning. John Paul the Second said mass here in June 1999 to canonise Kinga, a Hungarian princess who married a Polish duke in the thirteenth century and ended her life in the convent in this town.

The legend attached to her explains the salt mine at Wieliczka: she is said to have thrown her ring into a Hungarian salt shaft, and it was found in the first block cut in Poland. The altar is a timber building in highland style and is kept as a memorial with an exhibition underneath.
