De Kolk, Maassluis Live Cam

De Kolk is the old harbour basin at Maassluis, on the waterway between Rotterdam and the sea in South Holland. The camera looks along the quay from a museum ship.

This town was the base of the ocean-going salvage tugs. Dutch firms working out of Maassluis towed dry docks, drilling rigs and disabled ships across oceans for a century, and the museum here is devoted to the trade.

Several of the tugs are preserved afloat in the basin, including one built in 1916 that still runs. The channel outside carries everything going in and out of Rotterdam, which is a good deal of traffic for a town of thirty thousand.
