Punta Cancun, Quintana Roo Live Cam

Punta Cancún is the corner where the hotel strip turns, with the open Caribbean on one side and the Nichupté lagoon behind it. The camera looks over a resort pier and the beach from a terrace.

None of this existed sixty years ago. A Mexican government team picked the site in 1970 from a shortlist worked out on a computer model, on a sandbar with a handful of residents, and a resort city was built on it from nothing.

The strip is a barrier island bent like a number seven, sea on the outside and lagoon within; this point is the bend itself. The beaches along the northern arm face sheltered water and stay calmer than those down the eastern side.
