Weather and time

This camera watches the waterhole of Tortilis Camp on the western edge of Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya. The wide view shows a shallow pool with green banks, stony ground and acacia trees on the open savannah.

Tortilis Camp stands in the Kitirua Conservancy, a Maasai-owned area of about 120 square kilometres next to Amboseli National Park in Kajiado County. The land is leased from local Maasai landowners, so animals can move freely between the conservancy and the park. In this dry savannah, open water draws grazing animals.

The camera changes its view during the day. The main picture is the wide shot across the pool, with a lone acacia on the far bank. From there the camera moves closer to the near bank, where gazelles graze on the green edge among small black and white birds, and zebras stand at the water.
