Sendai Airport, Miyagi Live Cam

Sendai Airport stands close to the coast at Natori, in Miyagi prefecture on the Pacific side of northern Japan. The camera looks over the stands and the runway, and the feed carries sound.

The tsunami of 11 March 2011 came over this apron. Water metres deep filled the terminal, aircraft and cars were thrown across the field, and the people who had climbed to the upper floors waited days to be taken off; the runway was cleared for relief flights within a month.

It was the first airport in Japan handed to a private operator, in 2016. A rail line runs from the terminal to Sendai station in under half an hour, which is quicker than the same trip in most Japanese cities.
