Kyoto Station's Stairs Live Cam

The Grand Stairway inside Kyoto Station rises across this webcam view of the steel and glass complex in Kyoto, Japan. At night the treads carry an LED display, so patterns and colours run up the flight while people climb past it.

The staircase has 171 steps and rises through the station's open central hall towards the roof terrace; the lighting is built into 125 of them, using some fifteen thousand LEDs. The building was finished in 1997 and holds a department store, a hotel and a theatre as well as the platforms.

By day the same view is plain grey concrete and moving escalators. The display runs in the evening and changes with the season, and the steps are used for public events several times a year.
