Weather and time
This camera looks across open fields in the valley below Assisi to the whole hill town, stretched along the lower slope of Monte Subasio. The Basilica of Saint Francis and its long arcaded convent mark the left end of the town, and Rocca Maggiore crowns the hill above the roofs.
Assisi is the hometown of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, and the basilica begun in 1228, two years after the death of Francis, made it a major pilgrimage centre. With other Franciscan sites, the town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Its buildings use the pale pink and white stone of Monte Subasio.
Unlike the cameras inside the old town, this one shows Assisi as a whole, with farmland and a tree-lined road in the foreground. The wooded ridge of Monte Subasio fills the right side, and bell towers and a dome stand out in the eastern part of the town.
