Weather and time
The alun-alun at Demak is a large public square on the north coast of Java, in Central Java in Indonesia. The webcam looks over the grass, the food carts and the traffic around it.
The great mosque across the road was finished around 1479 and is the oldest on the island. Demak was the first Islamic sultanate on Java, the mosque is attributed to the nine saints credited with converting it, and one of the four main pillars is said to be made of bound wood chips.
An alun-alun is the open square in front of a Javanese ruler's seat, kept clear and usually planted with a pair of banyans. This one fills in the evening with carts and families, which is what most of them are used for now.
