Marseille Vieux Port, France Live Cam

The Vieux-Port has been the harbour of Marseille for about twenty-six centuries, and the webcam looks down its length. Fishing boats, yachts and ferries to the islands all use the same water.

Greeks from Phocaea landed here around 600 BC and founded the city, which makes it the oldest in France. The quay at the head of the port is where the fish are sold each morning, straight off the boats.

The north side was dynamited in 1943 and rebuilt afterwards, which is why one bank looks older than the other. Forts guard the entrance on either side, and the basilica on the hill behind is visible from most of the city.
