Jämi Ski Tunnel, Satakunta Live Cam

Skiers train inside a refrigerated tunnel at Jämi, in the Satakunta region of western Finland, whatever the season outside. The webcam looks down the track from one end of it.

The tunnel runs 1.25 kilometres with eleven metres of height difference, held a few degrees below freezing all year round. Cross-country teams use places like this through the summer, when there is no snow anywhere in the country.

Jämi sits on an esker, a ridge of sand and gravel dropped by a river running under the ice sheet, which is what gives the area its dry ground and its slopes. A gliding field shares the same ridge.
